Mark Holderness is Executive Secretary of GFAR and a member of Working Group 2 (partnerships). He feels that global and regional fora have an important role to play in stakeholder consultation surrounding the Change Initiative:
The CGIAR is a key constituent of GFAR since the Forum provides an open, inclusive mechanism for the CG Centers to discuss key agendas with other partners in a participatory way. The fact is that many people do not understand GFAR and the value of an open forum. They see us as a separate institution while, in fact, everyone involved in agricultural R&D should feel ownership and make use of the available platforms to add value to their work and define the agenda of the international research system.
The Change Initiative offers the CG an important opportunity to make greater use of existing consultative mechanisms. And this is vital as the System opens itself up and takes the steps needed to ensure continued relevance in the future.
